Connie Avery is an accomplished leader in the aviation industry with extensive corporate and military experience. She graduated from Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, embarking on her aviation career first as an avionics technician. Securing a commission in the U.S. Navy, she earned her wings as a naval aviator just as women became eligible to serve in combat. Her distinguished service led to assignments with the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, Personnel Command and as leader in several squadrons before retiring at the Commander rank. She joined FedEx where Connie spearheaded key initiatives in Crisis Communications and the Safety Management System (SMS) program office, playing a key role in embedding SMS into FedEx’s air operations. Connie managed a centralized COVID control center and implemented the FedEx COVID pilot testing program to maintain reliable operations during the pandemic. Connie initiated and led a digital transformation for FedEx’s Safety & Airworthiness team, directing data systems integration to enable predictive analytics for safety risk reduction. Her contributions to safety at FedEx have been recognized with FedEx’s highest honor, the Five Star Award. Now at Wisk Aero, Connie is a leader on the Safety Management team ensuring system and operations safety in building/testing autonomous air taxis- the transportation of the future. Connie is serving her 3rd term on the board of directors for International Aviation Women’s Association (IAWA), currently VP of Association Development.
